Just Another Manic Monday

Let’s get real here.

I don’t really know what is going down in my brain half of the time. That means I created this blog with a veryyy wide open architecture to pretty much give myself free reign of the content. I have a lot of loves, a lot of passions, and a lot of free time. This may be somewhat of an annoyance to the blogosphere. I do realize many of the blogs I read have a specific theme and I have been asked very often “what is your blog about?” Why does it have to be about one thing? I love fashion, I love food, I love to laugh, I love interior design,I love catechizing, I love to read, I love to craft, I love music. I’m going to write/share all of these things because they are what I love. Plus, it’s a free country.

Sorry for that weird/no direction vent. But I feel better.

Today all I can think about/all I have thought about since yesterday is: forgiveness. Were any of you floored by the readings yesterday? The Liturgy of the Word cut me to the heart.

We are so blessed to have a God that knows exactly where we are and meets us time and time again. I feel like He is always one step ahead of me and simultaneously one step behind me saying, “Don’t worry I’ve got this, chill.”

I have the blessing of lectoring at Mass. This is easily one of my favorite ministries to be involved in. I feel so connected to the Word when I am reading it aloud. I read the first reading yesterday, from the second book of Samuel. Nathan and David show us how necessary the sacrament of Reconciliation is. David has sinned. Nathan, in proxy for the Father, leads him to see the error in his ways. David, with a humble and contrite heart, acknowledges his sin. The Lord forgives him. Boom.

We then get to see Christ show us how to love and forgive in the Gospel (like every Gospel). The Lord welcomes the anointing of his feet by the sinful woman. He welcomes everyone and forgives us completely when we come to Him with open and contrite hearts.

“So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven because she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.” This sent me reeling. He doesn’t say the one who has shown forgiveness is shown great love. No, no. He basically says the inverse of that. The one who loves the most, the one who sets their heart at His feet, the one who seeks forgiveness, is shown the greatest love. The one who is closed off, who does not seek forgiveness, will not show great love or receive it. C.S. Lewis sums this up nicely, “To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round hobbies, and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”

He asks so little of us. Humble, UNASHAMED, contrite hearts. To accept His grace and forgiveness and His extravagant love. (I know, I know, easier said than done. He really wants us to just say, help! I cannot do this alone!)

The answer to this small request is simple. The Church has taken such good care of us. The Sacraments. Specifically Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Our only response to His extravagant love is to fall at His feet as the sinful woman did. To acknowledge our brokenness and run to the font of grace He has blessed us with. My little human brain gets in my heart’s way so often. I have to analyze everything and come to my own conclusions and answers. Sometimes I need a slap in the face. That is what this Sunday’s readings were. A slap in the face. The good kind. He is basically reminding me, “Uh, hellooo, Sarah. Remember me? Yeah? Good. I’ve already figured all of this out for you. It’s called divine grace. I even gave you ways to access this grace. This lifeblood. Get your head out of the clouds. I love you.”

“As far as the east is from the west, has The Lord separated our sins from us.”  -Psalm 103:12.

Have a great day :)
